When the color experts at Pantone announced their 2014 color of the year, I got a little excited. Why would a color excite me? Well in general – who doesn’t love color. But most specifically, the color was inspired from my favorite flower! So I’m so happy that Pantone picked RADIANT ORCHID! Described by Pantone as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” And I’d say I have to agree. The BF is nice enough to by me orchids every couple of months and I love the color, charm, and sophistication that the color brings.
In general, purple hues are a symbol or royalty and wealth and can represent wisdom and spirituality. Because it is not often seen in nature, it is a rather exotic color. This makes it an extremely popular color for weddings! My college roommate used purple and silver as her wedding colors and that’s probably the most popular color combo you’ll see.

For a little more of a pop, think purple and pink. This color combo is definitely more feminine, so you’ll want to check with with your partner to make sure they are okay with the feel that these colors create (I’m a HUGE advocate of making sure partners feel included in the big day – and that means they are okay with the design!).
One of my favorite way to incorporate this trend into your wedding is pairing it with gold. These two colors create such a beautifully elegant design and can up the fanciness level of your special day.

With flowers and weddings, this color is beautiful. It’s versatile as both a big statement color and in small accent pieces and can make your big day beautiful.
