Last week, I talked about how blogging should really be a part of your business marketing. If you’re joining in on the Beyond Social Media series, make sure to check out that post. This week, I want to dive into email marketing. As a business owner, you’ve probably heard time and time again how important having an email list is. When it comes to our businesses, the only thing we own is our websites and our email lists. While social media platforms can (and often do) change their algorithms, emails allow us to speak directly to current and potential clients. If you haven’t started an email list yet, here are five reasons why you should.
Backup for social media uncertainties
If the “social media blackout” taught us anything, it’s that we need to have alternative ways to talk to our audience. We all know the frustration that comes with trying to get likes, comments, and shares every time Instagram changes the way our content is seen. With a good email list, you can talk directly to your clients, right in their inboxes.
Building personal connections
Your email list can help you build real connections with your audience. I share personal milestones and fun stories with my email list that I don’t share here on the website. I often get replies back about how much readers love and appreciate all that I share. And make no mistake, building personal connections is really how to you convert sales. People are more willing to buy from people they like, know, and trust – even if they only know them through email.
Making income
Businesses are meant to make money! And email lists are a great way to make sales! How many of you have made a purchase because you saw something pop up in your email?! By utilizing your list to announce exclusive deals or even just new products, you’re more likely to increase your sales.
Grow a Community
In the same fashion as building personal connections, email marketing allows you to grow a community. Have a podcast? Share weekly episodes and resources with your list. Doing a challenge? Invite your list to participate and follow along with others in the challenge. People want to belong and email marketing is an avenue to build a community of like-minded people.
Measurable Analytics
Social media doesn’t make it easy to figure out what type of content converts. With email marketing, you have a bunch of analytics available at your fingertips. This can help you figure out which messaging works best for your audience or what photo is more likely to get clicks. By utilizing these analytics, you can refine your marketing techniques and really hone in on the audience that’s likely to lead to sales.
